Do wooden wicks produce a wooden burn smell?

No not at all. Wooden wicks do not produce a wooden burn smell. The scent you enjoy comes from the candle's wax and added fragrances, not the wick itself.

Why is there char at the top of the wick after burning?

This is totally normal and just the burnt used up remainder of the wick. Simply break/cut the charred portion off before relighting.

Are wood based wicks suitable for coconut soy candles?

Yes, absolutely. These types of wicks do very well in natural waxes such as coconut soy.

What are the best practices for burning wood wicked candles?

Trim the wick to 1/8"-1/4" before each burn, ensure the candle is on a stable, heat-resistant surface, and avoid burning in drafty areas. Allow the wax to melt across the entire surface (especially on its first burn) to prevent possible tunneling.
