Okay so in my review of book 1, I seemed like I was on the fence, neither confirming a love for this series or disliking it in any way. Well, now after reading book 2, I'm not on the fence anymore. The story, the plot, the characters, the steam….it all got stronger in book two. I am very excited for book 3.
In book one, the FMC (Rhiannon) knows she has magic but hasn't learned to harness any strength in it or use all the elements of her power (wind, earth, fire, and water). She has spent her life being hidden and instructed not to trust humans while living a long but secluded life. When that reality shatters she has to team up with a half human (MMC/Rowan) that shares a common realized destiny. The ever-favorite enemies to lovers relationship simmers throughout book one as I mentioned in my last review but book two has a different FMC and MMC with Rhia and Rowan more in secondary roles.
Book two is no longer written in distinct POVs of FMC and MMC but is instead in third person throughout.
Aine (mentioned in my first review) has 10 years of pent up rage set on revenge while also having an intense pull to protect her new found family of Rhia and Rowan. Once she meets Rhia's brother, Dagda, rage is not the only thing that makes her burn from within. However, trust and a need to explore the darkness of her magic threatens to be her undoing as she struggles to understand her role in helping Rhia and Rowan save the future of their people.
These FMC’s are strong and know who they are. They have life experiences and destinies that they accept and believe in. I truly enjoyed both books, reading well into the dark of night. That being said, the end of book 2 made me yet again so frustrated that I don't have book 3…….again. Come on all you authors! Can't we release all 3 at once….I beg you!
