If you loved the competitive journey that Celaena Sardothien had to endure to become the King's Champion in SJM's Throne of Glass, then you'll love the Trial of the Sun Queen!

This book explodes onto the scene as book one of four for Nisha J Tuli's series Artefacts of Ouranos. It's a 386 page book that I flew through, I couldn't put it down.
Released in November 2022, I can't believe that it took me this long to find this Canadian writing gem!

In this first book of the series, the FMC Lor, is introduced to us as a prisoner in a notorious prison known for its cruelty and harshness. She has spent half of her years fighting for her life and dreams of only freedom and revenge.

Suddenly she finds herself released from the prison only to compete in the trials for the next Sun Queen. She's forced to participate, keeping her origins a secret from everyone except those who released her and she has no choice but to win or die trying. Although she doesn't understand this turn of events, but she sees her opportunity to get her revenge and no one will stop her!

This book starts strong and just keeps going! The writing is energetic and has you cheering for almost everyone despite your gut telling you that something isn't right. Written in first person from the perspective of Lor and third person for the other chapters it pulls you into the emotions of the characters to the point that your imagination is wide awake!

I've read many books in this and closely related genres, most of which I knew I'd love because they are so highly recommended. But this one was a happy little surprise from a self published Canadian author that had me telling myself, “just one more chapter” several times before I'd force myself to go to bed.

I can't wait to start book two and am excited that book 3 is releasing soon!

For me, this book has all the 5 F's that I love! Fantasy/romance, fun, feisty, flirty, and fraught with danger!
